Etta James who died recently in December, had some connections to Bob Dylan. From The Examiner.com:
“There are a handful of connections between James and Bob Dylan.
Bob Dylan dropped in on a late 1970′s Etta James session in Los Angeles to speak with producer Jerry Wexler, where he previewed some new songs:
… He just happened to drop by one Tuesday evening to tell me he was a fan and play Wexler some of his new ideas… That record, Slow Train Coming, featured “Gotta Serve Somebody,” my favorite Dylan tune, which, years later I wanted Wexler to produce for me, only to have Jerry refuse ’cause the song was too religious!”
